The Cornwall Street Park is a public park near the metro station and a bustling shopping center in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. The project is a part of collaboration of artists to provide seating instrument for visitors of the park. In terms of seating, the design chooses “mat”, the coziest, the most relaxing and comfortable among all kinds of sitting condition, as the concept idea. During the design process, the “mat” floats, colorizes, creases, curves, solidifies, and forms five different fiberglass seating “mats” scattered on the paving and the grass. At night, the “mats” are lit from underneath, creating an illusion of floating mats.
